We met with DAA today to get a briefing about the results of the uplift survey. Unfortunately, the returns were not sufficient to give a definitive answer. There were just not enough responses from those operating on unsealed roads, and also those who travel on sealed roads (the sealed road data was necessary to benchmark the unsealed data).
This is most disappointing and does no credit to the Industry. However, the survey does show that an uplift is necessary and that the figure is above 8.35%. They cannot say with any accuracy what the uplift figure might be. Therefore, the 9% will remain until another survey is completed in four years’ time. I will send an overview of the final report when it is available.
